The blower motor resistor is used to control the speed of the blower motor (fan). It does that by adding resistance to the blower motor circuit in lower speed settings (1, 2, 3).
Problems with the blower motor resistor are common in many cars, however the repair is not very expensive. In most vehicles, the blower motor resistor is installed close to the blower motor. In cars with the separate manual HVAC system for the rear passengers, the separate resistor is typically installed near the rear blower motor.
